Expandable Fishing Rod

Arora Expandable Fishing Rod and Reel

Expandable fishing rods are great for backpacking, children’s rods, or keeping in your vehicle for those unplanned fishing opportunities.

I use mine for a lightweight backpacking pole. Compared to a standard rod, the collapsible rod weighs less and can be stored inside the pack to avoid getting hungup or damaged on trees, bushes, and rocks. I also keep this rod in my truck when I’m not using it.

The Achilles Heel of expandable rods is their strength and durability. By design, the rod is hollow to allow it to collapse into itself. This is a huge handicap that causes the rod to break under the strain of a larger or hard fighting fish. The rod also can break during casting due to repeated stress of fighting fish.

The previous expandable type rod I used(forget the brand) was strong while fighting fish, however not durable and didn’t last long. The rod never broke when reeling in the fighters and larger fish, however the stress would severely weaken the rod. In fact, I would immediately throw the rod in the trash after fighting larger fish, knowing that the rod would break on the next use.

I have owned this rod and reel combo for over 3 years now and have pushed its limits. Numerous backpacking trips, banging the rod on rocks and trees, throwing it in the back of my truck, and plenty of time with fish tugging at the rod tip. The rod is still in good shape and still catching fish.
Upon opening the package, I was quite surprised with the reel. It is definitely not a high-end reel, however for the price, it will get the job done. I used it for a few months and then upgraded to a smoother reel.

I purchased this rod and reel combo for $5 from a dropshipper, however common pricing ranges from $9.99- $29.99. The value of this combo is far greater than the cost, so if you get the opportunity to pick one up at a reasonable price, DO SO!
